Before you call: four checks that fix a lot of "no heat" calls
Some no-heat calls turn out to be something a homeowner can fix in five minutes. Try these first. If none of them works, call us.
- Thermostat: set it to Heat, raise it 3 degrees above room temperature, and replace the batteries if the screen is faint.
- Filter: a clogged filter can shut the furnace down on its safety limit. Replace it and wait 10 minutes.
- Power: make sure the light-switch style service switch at the furnace is on and the breaker has not tripped.
- One reset only: many Goodman and other modern furnaces lock out after several failed ignition attempts. Turning the service switch off for 30 seconds clears the lockout once. If it locks out again, the cause is still there and resetting it repeatedly can flood the burners with gas.
